Diet and the Acid Alkaline Balance; Avoid Chronic Disease

You might not know it...but that orange you ate with breakfast was alkalizing to your system. And that's a good thing.

Let's forget for a moment that you just added some much needed vitamin C and thousands of phytonutrients to your body. But did you know that you've actually taken a step in maintaining a healthy pH balance? .... But that orange had an acid pH, didn't it?

It is little known that the the acidity of the orange itself (or any citrus fruit) has nothing to do with the residue in the body after digestion. The potassium and calcium found the orange are essential minerals that are left behind to balance the the body's pH.

  1. Baby carrots are actually large carrots shaped into little carrots. They are then soaked in chlorine to kill bacteria that forms since they are skinless. Not a good choice for people interested in health....

  2. Wow, even the organic ones? I've been eating those, they look like they have little roots on them, and I can even see where the tops were... maybe those are real? Weird though, I didn't know that!

  3. I have been juicing raw vegetables for several years (typically whole pealed lemon included), but to date have no evidence that my morning saliva and urine are alkaline. It is always acidic, often well below 7.0.

Some time ago, after months of supplementing with calcium, there was no pH change (save very briefly after a meal or taking a supplement) & a doctor recommended I stop due to an overabundance of calcium in my blood.

Incidentally, Emanuel Revici found some tumors acidic and others alkaline!

  4. Peter,

I wonder what your daily diet consists of besides what you have mentioned. There can be a combination of causes of acid pH, even including missing enzymes, which are eliminated from foods when cooking and even juicing. How much sugar, dairy, meats and grains are you eating in proportion to the fresh fruits and veggies?

Also, calcium in tablet form isn't necessarily easily absorbed, particularly if you are not getting at least 1:2 ratio of Magnesium with it, and Vitamin D is alo necesary for proper calcium absorbtion.

Essential minerals and enzymes are critical to maintaining a proper pH balance as well. Next on my list of articles is one on enzymes, and you may not have seen my recent one on essential minerals.

Yes there are areas of our bodies that are more acid than alkaline, and tumors may reflect the pH of their environment.

Hope you are able to straighten out your acidity, good luck!

  5. Thank you for your comments. I have tried a variety of calcium supplements, including coral calcium, none of which seems to work for me after many months of trial based on pH strip tests. I have known some forms are more easily absorbed than others.

Diet is probably a problem, partly because my metabolic (Wolcott) and blood type does so well on meat. I don't do well on most fruits, and dairy is far too painful in the intestines to be tempted even by (yuck) ice cream.

I eat some wheat, but rice is iffy and oats are out. Been taking Carlson's Cod Liver oil for some years, and that has Vitamin D in it. I do better on animal-based Cod liver oil than on plant-based flax seed, borage, or primrose oils. Again, my carnivorous side.

I live near Dr. Mercola, but after many months I quit because nothing of the many things I did with him did anything that could be measured or, with slight exception, felt (although I still juice my veggies and take Cod liver oil).

My health has been particularly bad since 7/19/01 at about 3:00 PM for unknown and undiagnosed reasons. I lost count of the number of health care practitioners of many kinds I've seen (over 20) and the number of things I've tried (supplemental enzymes included), but there is a repeated and obvious correspondence between how I feel in several ways and a chiropractic adjustment to my atlas vertebra by a NUCCA specialist. X-rays show my spinal column is pinched and twisted where it leaves the brain.

And I suppose nerve connection between the brain and everything south could affect pH (among other things), organs being somewhat dependent on the brain to function properly!

  6. Wow, Peter I am sorry you are having such troubles! It is interesting about the nerve connection, that would seem a likely connection (logically and physically!). I wonder about inflammation at the cellular level there too. Have you heard about Limu Plus? There's at least something that most people feel a difference in in just a matter of days, in its ability to reduct inflamation (vickiberry.limuplus.com). I would also think you might find this book interesting, Wellness Against All Odds... I don't have it with me (loaned it out) but it was written by a woman doctor who had numerous health issues and diagnoses and found her root issues to be chemical sensitivity (which popped into my head about your comments on being on the grass for a while even fully clothed). This caused a myriad of imbalances that plauged her. Very good book. Anyway, let me know if I can help in any way. I know with persistence and faith you will be able to get things to improve. I will pray that happens and help as much as I can!
    All the best,
    Vicki
